We're just a couple of guys, a beautiful blue truck, and a trash company. But we're so much more complex than that.

A Little Bit About Us

Jeremy and RyanValley Curbside Recycling is a small, homegrown business with a deep love for the New River Valley. Its founders, Jeremy Hart and Ryan Stewart have no particular expertise in materials recovery or environmental studies, but they both recognize that a coordinated effort to increase recycling in the NRV is the right thing to do. The most interesting thing about this duo is how they met. It was in April 2008...on a website named Twitter.

Jeremy has always wanted to play in trash. Seriously - as a child, he ran around the house with a shower cap and a trash can, yelling for trash. It's only fitting that years later, the opportunity to help create a service like this for the residents of Christiansburg would come about. When Ryan approached him about the idea, he knew it was something that was sorely needed, and was excited to help. "We don't know anything about trash", admits Jeremy. "But when you boil it down, you don't have to be an expert to do the right thing. It just takes a commitment to serve." A Realtor at Nest Realty Group in Blacksburg, Jeremy and his wife have received much from the community, and Jeremy feels this is an opportunity to give back "to the community that's given so much to them."

A student at the Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, Ryan Stewart is new to the NRV. After moving to Christiansburg with his wife and dogs in July 2008, he was surprised to learn that there was no curbside recycling service in the area. "I have a college friend who started a small curbside recycling company in Tennessee, so I called him to ask his advice," says Ryan. "He put it to me straight, and in the end, I decided that this was the right thing to do." Ryan believes strongly that the health of people is directly related to the environment in which they live. "As a medical student, I'm learning how to treat patients. Starting this company is something I can do now to improve the lives of folks in the New River Valley. That means a lot to me."
